Tool to manage Windows AD.

Postby PapiSolo on Tue Jun 23, 2009 10:44 am

Hey all

I've used LM on and off (due to work issues) for a while now. I've also migrated to other distros on ocasion but always come back to LM.

Now I've decided (After seeing how great LM7 is) to get my act together at work and go about setting up my linux machune as my main work machine. However, for this to work, I need one small problem solved (managed to get all other going great)

I need to be able to view/browse/edit the Windows Active Directory. With windows, I could just install the resource kit and access AD directly, but I wan't to avoid having to reboot into windows to edit the AD.

Are there any tools for linux that could help me in editing/viewing the AD in linux (I don't want to join a domain but rather edit the AD)

Cheers, and thanks for all sugestions and help.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

LDAP tools of some type, since all or most directories for enterprises/networks are ldap compatible..

You could always run a windows machine inside a VM (like virtualbox) and run Microsoft tools
--also a boot, but from a file instead of the whole system, it boots and runs quicker, and you can also just use the iso image, you don't have to create a windows OS file in the VM, that is also quicker..

I have no idea but in searching Synaptic I did find this:

adtool
command line utility for Active Directory administration

Active Directory is the LDAP directory on which all Microsoft Windows
domains are built. adtool allows you to administer such domains from
a Debian shell. Features include user and group creation, deletion, modification,
password setting and directory query and search capabilities.

If you do a search for Active Directory in Synaptic you may find others - since you know what you're looking for
