Google not loading - everything else works

Postby gpd330 on Wed Jun 24, 2009 4:24 pm

Weird thing started happening to my Mint 6 Felicia install on my laptop yesterday. When I try to go to google I get the address not found page in Firefox 3. If I search from the google box on the Mint homepage same results. This is also happening when I try to go to those pages in Opera. My firewall is not on so I can't imagine what is going on. Every other thing that I go to on the internet works. I really need google to work any help would be greatly appreciated.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

And when you type in the url http://www.google.com, do you get the google search page
--if so, then it is the preferences within your browser(home page), or the addons that are not correct

BUMP..

There is no connection reason, if everything works including pings why one IP-name address (http://www.google.com) doesn't, because DNS problems (IP-name mapping) is more general than that, check the google IP address
--in a terminal on your system ping http://www.google.co, try that address in the firefox location bar, do you get a
response or not..

checking the data
--in the terminal
  • ping ww.google.com
  • nslookup http://www.google.com
  • Contents of the /etc/resolv.conf file, it should only include your nameserver/gateway, if you are using dhcp connection (automatic)
  • Try the IP addresses returned, do you connect to http://www.google.com search page ?
