ThinkPad Fan Control and modprobe.d/options

Postby Tuco on Mon Jul 13, 2009 2:51 pm

hello gentlemen ,

i am a total n00b on linux and i am trying to lower my fan speed via the soft ThinkPad Fan Control following the tutorial here:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_co ... an_Control

okay, so the pb i've got is that in \etc\modprobe.d i have no folder called options and even worst, i have no folder at all.

I have taken a look at the files *.conf in modprobe.d but i haven't seen anything relevant for a thinkpad.

So my question is how do i install the fan control ?

i run mint:
http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/ ... -7-x64.iso

and my laptop is a thinkpad x61

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

In Terminal,
uname -r
2.6.28-13-generic

--the kernel version installed by Linux mint 7 -gloria (32bit edition in my case..)

Fan control apps/utilities, thinkpad + Ubuntu

I am not sure that particular facility is there on Ubuntu 9.4(jaunty)/Mint 7..
--you might be able to get something going without messing around with facilities /applications/utilities that are not available in the Ubuntu/Mint repositories , for disk, fan, battery monitoring & control
http://www.columbia.edu/~ariel/acpi/acp ... _supported
acpitool -- command line utility to get battery/fan/temperature/cpu information or to suspend to RAM/disk, turn on/off fans, and control wakeup capable devices
powersave, with front ends kpowersave, gkrellm-powersave, wmpowersave -- all purpose utility overing APM, ACPI and other power management features
