I don't think you did, because back in the day, free or commercial BBS used dial up and the software was the BBS interface, not telnet anything

The only people who used Telnet that much were those who wanted a Linux root account..

I did see that link you have about the writers BBS, but it doesn't go anywhere
--the other one is Japanese or Chinese characters
