K3b, and other kde programs wont start

Postby S-99 on Sat Jun 16, 2007 6:12 pm

Hi, i'm new to linuxmint. I like it a lot better than straight ubuntu. Actually i feel that the ubuntu based distro's do a much better job than ubuntu themselves at making a complete and polished distro. And here i went from mepis to linux mint.

Which leads me to my next concern, i desire to run k3b (it's still a lot better than gnomebaker and brasero) and kopete (because i desire to have some functionality with my webcam since gyachi does not work as well in feisty as compared with edgy). Anyway, i have k3b installed, and it grabs all the necessities from synaptic and puts itself into the mintmenu (i love the mintmenu as well). After that i click and it wont run, so i go into console and try to run k3b from there. And this is what it gives me...

s99half@shart:~$ k3b

Kopete gives me the same stuff about permission denied and can't setup dcop communication.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Can you please give us the output of this command:
Code: Select all
 ls -alR /home/s99half/.kde
... and then please put the entire output here.

Unnecessary. It's obviously a problem with user rights management with the .kde folder. Couldn't even get into that thing as a normal user. So i took someone else's advice and changed the user rights for it by going into my home directory and typing

"sudo chown -hR [your login name] .kde"

This gives the .kde folder normal permissions as opposed to only having root permissions, now it has my normal profile's permissions so dcopserver no longer has a problem and i can run k3b and kopete.
