vinagre is something you can pour over a salad
There is a setting in "Remote desktop" to allow others to view your desktop, that's about all
What about firewall settings?

This confuses me - does this mean you can browse your company's intranet but not connect to the computer?I have to connect to my works VPN via this java aplet that gives me a direct connection in. I can run it with no issue in mint and connect to our private web pages, but direct connection to that computer is still blocked.
It probably does but I'm not sure
When you browse an intranet you do not use vinagre (I suppose)
It seems to me that you are doing everything right and I can't find something that helps you
My friend miket, the real networking specialist, seems to have retreated to his French farm again
I'll have to ask someone else

Yes if you can use other software you may be better off
There should be a guide in the forum written by "miket" about remote connections

Does vinagre support RDP?
If so, how?

I think I may have missed the problem
B) windows remote desktop uses port 3389 - OK but what about vinagre - could that make the Win computers use another port or a random port
If you could set the Windows computers to accept your IP address (entirely) it may work
Of course you don't have the same IP all the time so you have to overcome that - there are services that gives you a static IP or you could use some sort of recognition so the Windows computers knows that it's you
This is outside my normal expertise so forgive me for being vague
A) This means that it is the firewall of these Windows computers you need to check, not on your Mint computerI looked up that windows remote desktop (because both computer i'm trying to remote to are windows) uses port 3389
