Eclipse is a very slow, cumbersome piece of software. How much RAM do you have? When you experience this slowdown open a terminal and type: "top" and "free" and see what is consuming your system resources and post the results back here.

Yes memory and swap are you problem. If you look at the output from "free" you will see you have almost used up all your RAM and you do not have swap enabled. You need to definetely have swap space - that is probably why you are having problems. When you installed Mint did you create a swap partition? It appears not. Please post the output of:

sudo fdisk -l
cat /etc/fstab
