Updates & Package management

Postby subset on Sat Dec 26, 2009 6:20 am

Merry X-MAS !
Why don't have Mint Helena's update manager the latest ubuntu version, like 2.6.31-16 kernel ?
Helena only have 2.6.31-14.
The package manager (synaptic) don't have "Mark All Updates" button.

Can I use aptitude ?
It is say - some packages are broken, but it make up to date all packages.

Sorry 4 my English

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

The reason Synaptic does not have a mark all upgrades button is to avoid it being used
It's a dangerous option, but can be done in apt if you want to risk a broken system
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Without how does an end user determine which upgrades are worthy of being applied? I've long been under the impression if the upgrades came via the official repositories they should be applied.
