DVD software & video driver query

Hi all,

I'll be 100% honest - I'm a complete Newbie, however couldn't see any related 'software' queries there - so I came here. Apologies if I got it wrong.

Just wandered what to use to convert DIVX & AVI files to DVD, wish to burn 'domestic' DVD player friendly files, that I can view away from the PC. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Also...

I'm running Linux 8.

The video / sound driver appears a little dodgy at best, how do I determine what driver I need to locate? You'll have to spell the detective processes out I'm afraid - Newbie! I believe that the video card is built into the mother board.

Look fwd to any responses.

All the best

Jon

if you can open a terminal and type "lspci" (w/o quotes) and copy and paste the results we'll find out your video card.

1) One easy app that I use is DeVeDe. I add my avi's, (one for each title), when they are all added, there is a simple button to adjust sizes to fit the dvd, create a menu, then sit back and wait for the iso file to be created, then burn the image to dvd. It's available in the Package Manager.

2) We will need to know some info about your hardware. Open a terminal, type inxi -F (enter), and copy/paste the output back here.

edit : oops beat me to it maddog . .

Hi, thanks both for your responses, really appreciated.

Here is what I found, (by the way I did ask that people spell out what to do - co's I'm used to Windows, but this is really new to me - but I've gotta say... I do like it so far! Plus the tiny amount of detective work is doing me good :D
