GNOME-office

Postby JohnKS on Fri Jan 15, 2010 11:54 am

Hi: I installed Gnome office in Mint 8 x64 but can't seem to find it. It doesn't show up in start menu items. The package manager shows it installed. Did a filter search and it doesn't get listed. I wonder if anyone has any insight about what I must be missing. Thanks. John

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi again: actually, I can't find Evince either. Software manager says it's installed but there is no launch icon and a search didn't reveal an executable. I'm a little stumped. Glad for any help. Regards, John

GnomeOffice is a meta package of different applications, not a single package. (From what I gathered online). From the gnome live website, the following applications are part of it:
Standard Office Applications
AbiWord - Word processor (supports also OpenDocument Format).
Evince - Document viewer (official part of GNOME).
Evolution - Groupware and Email application (official part of GNOME).
    Gnumeric - Spreadsheet application.

Other GNOME/Gtk Office Applications
    GnuCash - financial application
    gLabels - label designer
Glom - database designer similar to Filemaker
Related
    Tomboy - Note taker
    OpenDocument Format
.

JohnKS, Look for PDF Viewer in the menu's, I think this is what evince installs in the menu as. I understand this can be confusing at time and in my opinion, I think this needs to be worked on.
