Hello to everyone,
today I enabled the Ubuntu Mozilla Team repository from Launchpad and I installed Firefox 3.6.
However, it no longer works somehow.
Someone please tell me how I can go back to the Firefox version (i.e. 3.5.x) that comes by default in Mint/Ubuntu.
Please!!
Thank you very much in advance, folks.

I mean, I assume that I will have to:Iunthanaka wrote:Hello to everyone,

1) remove that repo from my Sources
2) sudo apt-get update to reload my sources
3) From synaptic or the terminal, uninstall the packages "firefox" and "xulrunner", and then re-install them.
However, I've just realized that by uninstalling those two packages, many other packages and metapackages (including, but not limited to, mint-meta-gnome, mint-meta-x64, sun-java-6-plugin, etc.) will be removed.
What do you think about that? Can I do that safely or my Helena x64 system will become unstable or crippled?
Thank you very much in advance.

Maybe it would be easier to find out why 3.6 isn't working and fix it. Maybe.Iunthanaka wrote:However, it no longer works somehow.

The fact is, it does nothing whenever I launch it. Absolutely nothing. It does not open nor give any other sign of life. Maybe I should enable that repo again and wait for tomorrow's update, since it's FF's daily build repo?

Run it from the terminal so that you can see the error message that pops up.

Easier to do it synaptic. You could also Force synaptic to reload the earlier version by going to Package | Force Version ... with firefox selected, but it's probably better to do it the way you outlined, though you need to reload after you've un-installed. You only need mark firefox 3.6.1 for removal, and firefox-gnome-support if you installed it. Make sure you only Remove the other packages, not Completely Remove. After reloading, remark firefox 3.5.7, firefox-gnome-support and mint-meta-x64 for install.Iunthanaka wrote:I mean, I assume that I will have to:

This is the error message after trying to run FF from the terminal:Kaye wrote:Run it from the terminal so that you can see the error message that pops up.

It doesn't work for me either, nor does Pidgin.

I did as you told me. I uninstalled and them re-installed.remoulder wrote:Easier to do it synaptic. The issue is now solved, thank you very much.
Re: [SOLVED] Help need with FF 3.6: how do I get back to 3.5?
I downloaded the Linux binary from the main Mozilla Firefox download site for FF 3.6 and ran that without any problems. Java didn't work, but everything else was fine. I didn't remove the official Mint FF 3.5. There didn't seem to be any conflicts and I can run either one.
