Problem with the Update-Manager in Cassandra XFCE

Hi, I've just installed Cassandra XFCE edition (which is great) but just after the installation I tried to update the packages and a strange thing happened.... The installation process got blocked and now I can't do update or use synaptic.
The error message I've got says:
E;encounterted a section with no Package:header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/(name of the file).

I looked at the file and it seems actually quite similar to the other files in the folder.....

So, conclusion..... I need help

Try

sudo dpkg --configure -a

and it may be useful to know the (name of the file)
If the above does not help try

sudo apt-get --purge remove packagename - removes a installed package (configfiles will also be removed)
