Out of curiosity, I installed the edubuntu-artwork package to see what was in it. It replaced the icon at the top of my login screen with something similar to the Ubuntu logo, but uglier, and I don't like its look. So, I tried to uninstall it. It returned the following error report in Synaptic Package Manager:
E: edubuntu-artwork: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2
Expanding the "Details" section of the Changes Applied window, I see the following (had to type this by hand - hope there are no typos!):
Removing edubuntu-artwork ...
Reverting desktop defaults ...
Moving Ubuntu firefox homepage back in place ...
update-alternatives: warning: alternative /usr/share/edubuntu-artwork/home/index.html (part of link group firefox-homepage) doesn't exist. Removing from list of alternatives.
update-alternatives: warning: /etc/alternatives/firefox-homepage is dangling, it will be updated with best choice.
update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for firefox-homepage.
dpkg: error processing edubuntu-artwork (--remove):
subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned error code (1)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
And that's where it stops. The package is still installed, and the ugly icon is still in place. I cannot seem to be able to remove it.
I would appreciate any help! Thanks!
P.S. - I promise never to get curious again!
