Run another partition virtually in Linux?

Post by highflyer »

Hi

I'm running a dual boot XP - Mint on my laptop, I currently use XP virtually in Mint aswell using virtualbox. For this I had to re-install XP in virtualbox.
Is there a way to use my XP partition virtually (with all the software and settings) so that I do not have to re-install everything in a virtual environment?

Thanks!

You can run virtualbox against an active windows partition, but you have to be careful
--also it will depend on which windows OS version you are using

The best place to check is the virtualbox forums

Some examples..

Could you tell me what the risks are of doing so?

It's really much easier if you export the partition to a virtual machine.
Search the Mint forums, I talked about how it can be done. I've done it and use it everyday.
