Java Overkill?

Hey guys

I recently updated my Java runtime environment and the directory I've devoted to Java is now a whopping 113 Mb, even with a completely cleared cache.

Do I really need the latest version of Java; should I uninstall it and revert to the older version Cassandra comes with? The only reason why I updated my runtime environment was because some Java-using websites weren't being read properly.

That's not that bad :D Please keep in mind: It's Java and it's from SUN ... so there's got to be a bit of bloat somewhere?

"Sun Microsystems has ambitious plans for the commercial and open-source versions of its Solaris operating system, hoping to achieve for Solaris the kind of ubiquity already enjoyed by Java. "

OH NOES!
