Firefox 3.6.7 will not start in LinuxMint 8

Post by _HG_ »

Firefox has always worked well, until I upgraded to Firefox 3.6.7.
After upgrading, Firefox will not start at all. There are some hard disk activity but then nothing.
Locking in the process manager I can see that Firefox is sleeping.
Anyone that knows what's wrong ?

Open up a terminal and type the following:

Code: Select all

killall firefox
firefox -safe-mode
If Firefox can open up in Safe Mode, that means there's something wrong with your current Firefox profile. If it can't, something's wrong with Firefox itself.

Then I get the dialog box that says that Firefox is running in safe mode ...

In the terminal window I get:
(firefox-bin:5562): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times

and Firefox is NOT starting, i.e. not even in safe mode.

Hmmm...then maybe your profile somehow got corrupted during the upgrade. Open up your Home folder, press CTRL + H to show all hidden files/folders in Nautilus, and then rename the ".mozilla" folder to ".mozilla.old". Log out, log back in, and try starting Firefox again. (Note that this starts you off with a clean profile, i.e. bookmarks, addons, settings, themes, etc. are all wiped clean...they're still in the ".mozilla.old" folder if you want to dig through and retrieve stuff you need though.)

That did the trick.
Problem solved.

Thanks!
