Hi,
I'm having problems opening synaptic package manager through the Menu. The password prompt appears on the first attempt and the when accepted, synaptic flashes on the screen and then disappears.
Using the terminal command "sudo synaptic", i get the following output:

Re: synaptic problem
I get the same warnings if I run Synaptic from a command line, so nothing useful there unfortunately. You could try deleting apt's cache files. Look in /var/cache/apt and delete any files which end with .bin and then run Synaptic again.
Re: synaptic problem
Thanks for the workaround, removing the .bin files enabled me to run synaptic package manager although the same warning errors did appear when running from the terminal.
Will i have to delete the.bin files every time i want to use synaptic? Hopefully we can find a proper solution.

Re: synaptic problem
I expect you'll always see those warnings if you run Synaptic in a terminal window. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. Hopefully the cache file corruption, which was causing the problem, was just a one off. Only time will tell.
