Need help installing Xerox printer software

Post by okie2003 »

I would like to install Xerox's CentreWare software for a Phaser 8400. I have installed the printer as a network printer using the PPD file and it is working, but the CentreWare software provides some bells and whistles. The instructions for the Linux package say:
* CentreWare Services for UNIX Systems is a two part installation process *
* 1. a code package i.e SolarisXPXX_4.00.60.tar *
* 2. a printer support package i.e. PrinterPkgXPXX_2006_06_15.tar *
* *
* The code package must be installed first followed by the printer *
* support package. *
* *
* Installation requires the user have root or superuser privileges. *
* *
************************************************** *****************
************************************************** *****************
To install the package expand the tar file and execute setup.
NOTE: setup for the code package will expand and install the compressed tar
file in the install directory; generate script files and other files
that are needed at run time. You do not need to uninstall the package
if you are upgrading or reinstalling.
The following syntaxes are supported:
1. setup
2. setup tmp_path
3. setup install install_path
4. setup install install_path tmp_path
install_path is the installation directory which will contain
all of the Xerox software.
tmp_path is a temporary work area. /tmp is the default work area.

As root I created a folder "Xerox" in /tmp and in /usr/local. I extracted the tar file to "XeroxLinuxi686xpxxInstall". This is the result from a terminal:
rob@rob-E6510 ~/Xerox_Driver/Code_Package/XeroxLinuxi686xpxxInstall $ sudo setup install /usr/local/Xerox /tmp/Xerox
[sudo] password for rob:
sudo: setup: command not found
rob@rob-E6510 ~/Xerox_Driver/Code_Package/XeroxLinuxi686xpxxInstall $

What am I doing wrong?

Next, pls, provide any URL to be able to download the drivers' archive 'cos it's just even more consuming time.

Whatever, I downloaded "XeroxLinuxi686xpxx_4.30.28.tgz", extracted it and where a new folder has been created, opened terminal and typed

./setup

setup started asked something at the end of the screen "Y/n" but I didn't continued to install it all, so hope it could help at the beginning and hope you can proceed...

Thank you very much. I see now that I left off the "./" before "setup".

Next time I will give a link. Thanks again.
