Every few days, on booting up, just before the desktop opens, I get the following message:
Your disk drives are being checked for errors, this may take some time. Press C to cancel all checks currently in progress.
This time, I allowed 30 minutes and it still hadn't completed the process. Can someone tell me how long it takes? I have not come across this feature on any other distro and I've tried plenty!

Re: How long to check?
IIRC there is a bug
press C
see what happens, because on one of my machines it does nothing and I have to force a reboot
My laptop is OK though
Hopefully Mint 10 will be OK
There may be a way to stop the check happening in 9 - But I don't know it.

Is it really checking the disk drives?caf4926 wrote:IIRC there is a bug

Edit. Been googling and read more about it. It looks as if it is definitely a bug. I am surprised that LM hasn't done something about it already. Not good for its reputation!
Re: How long to check?
Someone suggested sudo touch /fastboot but I haven't tried it. Another poster said that it stops "the check".There may be a way to stop the check happening in 9 - But I don't know it.

Re: How long to check?
Or you can manually stop the checks until the bug is fixed. You can run a check manually by booting up your live cd, open GParted, select your Mint partition and right-click and select check. I have Mint 10 installed now and just today it did the disk check on boot-up. The check only took about 15 seconds.

Re: How long to check?
You can manually stop the checks until the bug is fixed. Go into Terminal and use this command: The number after "-c" is how many boots before it checks. You can change that 100 to 0. The path after that is your Mint partition. Set it to whatever your partition is. You can run a check manually by booting up your live cd, open GParted, select your Mint partition and right-click and select check. Code: Select all
sudo tune2fs -c 100 /dev/sda2

Re: How long to check?
So far Mint 10 only did one check on boot, but it was quick and then proceeded to boot up.
