blender 2.5

Post by dwende »

Using LXDE 9 although I keep the system updated.

Can anyone tell me how to install the beta version of blender 2.5.
The only version I can see in synaptic is 2.49
Thanks

You can get it here: http://www.blender.org/download/get-254-beta/

Currently there are no deb or RPM packages for the beta, only the source, although what you download on that page may just be standalone binaries that don't need to be installed, just extracted and run, I'm not sure. The only packages available that I could find are from this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~cheleb/+archive/blender-svn Note that these packages are for the development builds, not the stable betas. Development builds may or may not work properly, but they are updated extremely frequently, so if one build doesn't work the next one may.

a bit late, but...

if you go to http://www.graphicall.org/builds/ download the latest linux build (left hand column) by fish.
choose 32 bit or 64 bit version.
his builds are tested on latest ubuntu - usually hot off the press too
unpack it in a suitable place

sudo apt-get ffmpeg (which this build needs)

one of these libraries is a different version so make a symbolic link:
cd to /usr/lib
sudo ln -s libavutil.so.50 libavutil.so.49

then cd back to the blender25 directory and
./blender
(or click on the exe icon in the folder)

should work!
