Update Manage [SOLVED]

Hello, I just installed Linux Mint Isadora 9 today on my netbook. I ticked all of my sources and then tried to update for the first time. The updater says that I have 484 recommended updates available. When I hit "install updates" it churns for a while and then says "Could not apply changes! Fix broken packages first." I checked in synaptics and it says that there are no broken packages. I read in several other posts about people having the same problems, but they were using Mint 8. I have used terminal for apt update and it says:

I then use apt-get update to check the repositories and it says:
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the list directory
Any help is greatly appreciated. If you think it might be my repositories, can you tell me which ones are defaults so that i can go back and untick the non-default ones?

Ah-ha! There is my problem! Thank you very much I think that some of the sources that I had ticked were not updated or my updater was not able to retrieve from them and that made it give me the error message I received. I also did a clean install and that could have been what was going on. Thank you!
