Hi,
I've installed the package gdesklets. After starting the gdesklets shell on the console the output is as follows.

==========================================================[11/17/10-13:25:49]===
Could not import tiling module!
The gdesklets shell does not respond and exits after approx. one minute with the following output (on the console):
Cannot establish connection to daemon: timeout!
The log file might help you solving the problem.
After following the instruction on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=582721 (I replaced the line with
#! /usr/bin/env python2.6), the same result.
How to get gdesklets to run? TIA
I use Linux Mint Version 10 (julia) on kernel 2.6.35-22-generic, machine. x86_64
Regards
Marco

Re: gdesklets does not start
I compiled the newer version 0.36.2 and it works. I don't know if it's a bug in the old version or other compile options but this solved the problem. But many of the desklets do not work, are buggy or have other problems. I finally decided to switch to screenlets, which are installable using the package manager and provide working desk/screenlets.
