pdf font problem

Post by ThP1 »

Good morning to everyone

I have a problem with this pdf article

http://hotfile.com/dl/86909478/7a0c189/ ... G.pdf.html

when I use acroread 9.4-1 maverick, at first I get this message:

`Cannot extract the embedded font IODIOB+AdvFrutiger-L. Some characters may not display or print correctly.`

and the result is strange font in specific parts of the article (eg at the part of the authors), though the main structure of the article has not been disturbed.

using evince or okular things are worse and the problem relates to whole article including the structure.

using pdftohtml, the browser reads exactly as acroread.

using pdfedit and then gedit to open it as html
the problem seems more complicated
and I get reports for a large number of repeated errors:
Error: Couldn't create a font for 'IODIOB+AdvFrutiger-L'
Error: Couldn't create a font for 'IODIOC+AdvPalB'
Error: Couldn't create a font for 'IODIPI+AdvPalR'

My OS is Linux Mint 10 64bit

Any ideas?

I've tried it to open, with no errors but it looks like some letters would be missing :)
So I exported it to .txt file, if it'd help you...
It's here:

As far as I remember when I used windows I had full Acrobat / distiller and when opening a pdf with missing fonts it always asked me if I wanna choose other fonts instead of the missing...
Maybe using acrobat or installing fonts or using a converter (I'll look up yet :)) would help...

However there are info screens about properties and used fonts in the document:

Well, I've asked some friends and I am told that the author of the pdf if using distiller, he must be a dumbass 'cos he could include the missing fonts to the target file (even the file would be larger, not just about 300 Kb) and also its kB size says that the 'author' has expected (like everyone use windows, of course  ) that the file will be opened in win where are the fonts included.

I don't know, don't using windows any more :D

However I used Acrobat reader. Try to install it. If u don't have it in repo, u can install it from here:
http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions

I've selected linux, then .deb file what is mostly easy to install.

After install, just type in your terminal

acroread &

Then open the file.

Although I've got an error msg that file is corrupted and is trying to repair it :), one error msg remained:

But the design - layout is more nice, just some part, maybe right margin text is mixed... ;)

Give it a try or try to get the missing font and copy to OS...

Thank you for the answers and your time
If you copy paste the problem areas to OO text editor, they apear ok but if you copy paste the whole article, the structure is gone

The problem is that I want to print it properly without changing the structure.

I only found non free frutiger fonts to download, but they are quite expensive, and even if I wanted to pay for something like this,
I`m not sure that this will solve the problem
(I already have acroread from the repos)
Thank you again
