Strange middle mouse button behavior

Post by Rich.Carpenter »

I'm used to using the middle mouse button and pointing stick on my Thinkpad to scroll in web browsers. I've only recently installed Mint 9 KDE, and when browsing in Firefox, when I click the middle mouse button, the browser tries to navigate to http://www.rich.carpenter. I have no idea why it would be designed to do this and I can't find a setting with which to change it. Any ideas?

EDIT: It seems that after further observation, the middle mouse button acts as a BACK button, though when used after first opening the browser, it does try to go to my name as a URL.

Is there someplace I can change the middle-click behavior? I checked mouse properties and didn't see it there.

Try this, it worked for me,

1. open Firefox
2. in address bar type: about:config
3. locate line: middlemouse.contentLoadURL
4. double click the line to change from true to false

freddo :D

Firefox in Linux (and only in Linux) has a strange default value for that property. I can't imagine why anyone would want to try and navigate to whatever text is in their clipboard.

Thanks. That did the trick. Could I trouble you for the secret to changing that behavior throughout Mint? I'd like to use the middle mouse button to scroll in my code windows as well.

I'd imagine you'd need to mess with Xorg settings because the middle-mouse copy/paste (the primary clipboard I believe it's called) is a function of X.
