Applet desktop for Diabetics

Post by shenker »

Hi, my name is Alex .I write from Italy and i have a question for you

I found an applet/diary very interesting for me that I am a diabetic.
The problem 'that I can not install into my OS , LinuxMint10 Julia.
The file is .sh but not working
The link is:
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=124864
The problem is KDE?
Do you know what commands must be given to install it?
Not working? There are other solutions available?

Thanks for your help!

KDE is no problem. An SH file needs to be made executable before you can open it. Else you need command-line / terminal.
First unpack everything. Then make the file executable: Right-click > Properties, tab Rights and there you've to mark executable. (Sorry, am in Dutch Mint here so don't know exact English names). Then you can double-click the file, and choose open in terminal.

I tried to download and do the procedure with other programs plasmoid with binary files. Sh, but I can not run and install.

I miss some package to install I think, but 'do not know what

From reading the information on the download site, the applet is available only as source code. It must be compiled once it is downloaded in order for it to be installed. Unfortunately, my Linux learning is not yet to the stage where I can give instructions on this.

I will keep an eye on this topic as I am also diabetic and this interests me considerably.

Hello Aging,
thanks for your reply.

I also believe that I should be drawn from what I have read and understood (I'm newbie with Linux ,only 1 month )

try, of all people, to see if we can get to install programs in Linux Mint10

I wrote email to the person who made the program, let's see what it says but my feeling is' that needs to run a KDE environment, and then all the various packages

@ Aging: The install script compiles everything automatically. Shenker does not need to compile manually, he just needs to run the install.sh script.

Unfortunately, as shenker found out, the install.sh script does not run. There are two folders of code that must be complied, but the build folder in each is empty.

You can install KDE from software manager, then switch to it (logout and choose KDE at the bottom of the screen while typing password).

As an alternative I found a plug-in for Xcel which works partially in Open Office Calc. I can record the data, but the "script" for the chart does not work in OO. So I keep it as an xls file, email it to work before the doctor's visit and open in in Xcel and print.

The error is that it is missing QT libraries. (KDE) . . .
