QR barcode maker?

Is there a QR 2D area barcode maker available?
I noted Zint, at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/zint/ but am not sure if this is okay to install, given that its homepage doesn't seem to be functional,

Check this out. Never used it but I remember reading a story about it on omgubuntu.

If you want to stay up on all things *buntu it's not a bad idea to follow omgubuntu and webupd8.

It's Linux -- everything can be done from the command line. To encode string data in a QR code just use qrencode. It is available right from the Mint's package repository, offers a PNG output and has a handful of useful options. I have already used it to encode URLs to be scanned with mobile phones and it worked perfectly. Try it!
