data transfer mac partition using live question (resolved)

I have a clients imac intel based in my office here.

I want to mount and transfer files from its HDD so I can wipe the mac os and install linux mint.

Any one have any idea on how best to achieve this ?

The partition shows as a unknown .

Ubuntu is supposed to suport that in read-only mode.

looks like the partition table is unrecognizable.

Tried testdisk, test disk can not fix the partition table.

Thus why mac OS stopped working altogether.

So one of 2 things happened.

1. dead HDD

2. corrupted partition table due to unknown reason.

sadly smart is no existent on this imac.

It could be a controller issue and the HDD and data could be intact, have you tried it in another computer?

these imacs are not very easy to get apart.

Not just dead, but very dead lol.

tried mini tool at it clearly can not read or find the HDD ether.

That's one of the reasons why you should always have backups.

ya she had not backed any of it up what so ever.

4 years of pics LOST for ever.

worked on trying to rebuild the partition table and then the HDD just flat out died all together.

Don't even show up any more lol.
