Cannot Install Wine on Linux Mint 11
Hi,
First off, I'm a newbie at Linux, but I have been "helping" myself get around, which seemed to do just the opposite. I have been trying and trying to install Wine from the Software Manager but have gotten nowhere, so I tried installing it using Synaptic. It told me to fix broken packages first, so I clicked on that option under the Edit menu, and this came up:
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
E: Unable to correct dependencies
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

I need help please. Thanks.

Re: Cannot Install Wine on Linux Mint 11
Hi ftm
Did you try
sudo apt-get update
in the terminal first to update the packages.
I know we get this error sometimes during installs when we first install lmde we do two commands which usually fix things
sudo apt-get update
then
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade <----- this is what we use for LMDE not sure if it is the same for LM11 though, although it should be.
I'm no expert but maybe the update might help, if not does it tell you what the dependencies are?
Hopefully someone with more experience in LM11 will help out as well, I just use LMDE.

Re: Cannot Install Wine on Linux Mint 11
To fix broken packages:
On Mint 11, I'd prefer to use the updater (shield-like icon in the tray) instead of terminal to update things. Note that the second command has to be upgrade.
You can replace 'sudo apt-get' with 'apt' to get a much shorter command.
Code: Select all
apt install -f

Re: Cannot Install Wine on Linux Mint 11
In case apt install -f does not work, you can also try this one:
Or if it still fails:
Then repeat apt install -f.
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg --configure -a
Code: Select all
apt clean

Hi Albert! Is there any way to update my source list, so I know what to replace the inaccessible addresses with?

Re: Cannot Install Wine on Linux Mint 11
The Ubuntu repository is sometimes offline for a while. This is exactly what happened at you. If the problem persists, please run:
Code: Select all
apt update
