A replcement for Eudora

Hello,

I've been using Mint on one of my machines for some time now. I like it and I am considering putting it on my main machine, replacing windows. The only thing I am concerned about, is my Email application. I am currently using Eudora 7.0.1.0 paid version, along with a nifty utility called HotMailPopper. This allows me to use Eudora to download my email from all of my accounts and filter them into the appropriate mailboxes. I am searching for a Linux alternative to Eudora, something that will migrate my account settings and mailboxes. I read up on Eudora and found that they released the program code to open source and will not be developing a Linux version of the program. I did see that work is being done to add a eudora type extension to Thunderbird, something called Penelope, but it appears to be for Windows and Mac OS's. Any suggestions on other programs that would make the change over less painful?

Thank you

Penelope seems not to be ready
You could change to Thunderbird (import of mail and address book is automatic) or Evolution - it uses the same format for mailboxes as Eudora, so it's just to copy them, but address book has to be exported to something like csv and then imported - a bit complicated
I have used Thunderbird for many years now and like it - you can have rules to sort mail in it and the spam filter is pretty good

Thanks again Husse,

I feel I'm becoming indebted to you now. That's exactly what I'm looking for. I've used this email program for so long, it was one of the reasons I hesitated installing Mint onto my main computer. I checked out Thunderbird, and was pleased in how it is laid out, but didn't see anything in what I had read, that it would import the mail from Eudora. I am now going to have a look at Evolution and see if it is similar. I'm not worried about the address book, since I don't have much in it. (I guess I should get out more often.)

Again, Thanks

I think I may have lied to you. I took someones word for granted, but I can't see any possibility to import from anything other than Communicator. Perhaps the Windows version does this - sorry for not checking out, but I don't normally use Windows

That's OK Husse, I'm researching it now. I may just bite the bullet and just reconfigure the accounts anyway. I do like Thunderbird more and more.
