Ignore - Pan Newsreader - migrating from previous install?

Postby blues-guy on Tue Jan 08, 2008 1:21 am

I've recently installed Daryna LiveCD to HD and all is reasonably OK.

Have just installed Pan newsreader but it fails to see my previous /home/username/.pan/xxxx directory/config files.

No info on Pan site nor have I found anything by "googling".

Has anybodt had success with Pan? It's always worked fine for me inprevious/various distro installations.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I may be wrong, but I get the impression you have a home partition used by some other Linux before you installed Daryna
If so make sure that the user name and uid are the same (uid is 1000 for the first user in Ubuntu, but not in all distros)
On the other hand, if this is not right you'd have more problems

Husse, thanks for the reply.

The username and password are the same.

I just copied my /home/bill/.pan directory to my new installation ( after renaming the directory created automatically on install - this was /.pan2 and I renamed the transferred directory accordingly) - Pan fails o see my settings regardless of whether the /,home/bill directory is named .pan or .pan2.

Had no such trouble with Opera, Firefox, Ktorrent amule etc.

You should not have this kind of trouble, the config files in home should just work.
Somehow I get the feeling it has to do with the renaming and/or different content in the old and new .pan folder. But if it's different versions of pan there may be a problem.
Perhaps you find something in the pan site

Hi Husse

thanks for the reply.

Nothing that I do with Pan works - I even set it up from scratch ( reinstalled it ) but it wont connect to my ISP's news server even though all settings are correct.

I can telnet into the news-server, and I set up an account in Thunderbird for the news-server and it works fine.

Looks like a bug in the 0.128-1ubuntu2 package
