LiveCD Install Failure

Post by dangbert »

I had a problem with the "8254 timer error." Read the forums and found a fix (F-6 and "noapic" "nolapic") The fix took care of the error message, however, the program will load to the point at which the cursor changes from an "X" to the little round clock looking thingy. Then it simply locks up. This is my second download of MintLinux and have had the same problem on both. The box I am attempting to run the LiveCD on is

MotherBoard/Box: Gateway GT 5220
CPU: AMD Dual Core running at 2800
RAM: 2gig DDR
Video Card: Chaintech Nvidia 8400 with 256meg video ram
CD/DVD: DVD Recorder (came with the box)

i am currently running PCLInuxOS 2007 and system works well. I can load the Mandriva LiveCD with no problems. However, I cannot load the Kubuntu 7.10 LiveCD because of the same problems.

Any pointers welcomed

Deb

Have you tried booting in "Failsafe graphics mode" with or without the "noapic" "nolapic" fix?
Some nvidia cards don't like the "nv" driver that's used otherwise
