Hi, I'd like open *.java files with gedit instead of the default OpenOffice that Linux Mint 9 suggests. I used "Open with Other Application", selected gedit, and checked "Remember this application for...", but the next time I try to open the file, OpenOffice is still the default. I also right clicked on the file and went to Properties > Open With, and gedit is indeed checked.
My system is Pentium 4 with 1.5 GB RAM. Any ideas?

it has to be changed in default applications.You can change Open office file associations.By the way open office is obsolete software.Use Libre office ,its new avatar.
