Skype icon not visible in Mint 12

Post by JohnKS »

Hi: Mint 12 x64. Skype is sunning in the system monitor but its icon isn't visible in the upper panel. So if I want to run Skype, I get the error that an instance is already running. I seem to recall reading about this before in Katya. Is there a way to solve this? Thanks. John

A temporary solution is to go to system monitor or task manager and kill skype, which will allow you to relaunch it. The long term solution requires getting "notification area" onto the taskbar. Right clicking taskbar, choosing "add to panel", following prompts and selecting "notification area" did it in previous Mints. However, it has been known to get removed between boots, and so it may require repeating. See 4 in: http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/Tuning%20LXDE.html .
