I have moved TB in full from XP to ubuntu to mint and back again by simply ctrl-h in /home and copying everything in the .mozilla-thunderbird/3iewge.default (or whatever) folder and pasting it into the new .mozilla-thunderbird/*****.default/ folder.
You need to open up thunderbird first so it creates the new hidden dir. Close it and delete it's contents and paste your old ones. This is an easy one.
SOLVED - Thunderbird - copying everything from prev install
