you dont have to compile really.
in your menu go to the one that says "package manager" and click on it.
This is synaptic package manager, a versatile application installer.
after you type in your password and once the app is loaded go to search and click on it
and then search for konversation.
once it locates the package either right or left click on the little box next to the one that says "konversation"
and select "mark for installation"
now it may ask you to install more packages, but dont worry, just click the "ok" button and then after that go to the "apply" button and click on it
again click on apply and konversation will soon be installed
Here is more information:http://monkeyblog.org/ubuntu/installing/
This guide will teach you how to install practically anything on your system, now the guide is called "how to install anything in ubuntu" but Mint is based on ubuntu so most of the instructions here can be applied.
the major difference is the linux mint software portal that is almost like a click and run installer, there are quite a bit of applications listed though konversation isnt one of them yet.
