Fan Throtteling Tool

Postby chris28 on Fri Feb 01, 2008 7:33 am

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a tool which can manipulate the speed of my CPU-Fan. For windows I use speedfan and it works great (very quiet PC at less than 40°C). Unfortunately my Fan is really loud at 100% Speed (Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro). Unless I find a way to throttle it Linux is no option for permanent use for me :(

Do you have any suggestions how to get my fan quiet?

(Trying different BIOS settings didn't help)

Regards
Chris

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

First off is this an ASUS motherboard? They have some good tools in BIOS and probably other manufacturers too.
'fancontrol' will do that for you.
It's in the package 'lm-sensors' which you can find in Synaptic/mintInstall3.4
You are to set it up with 'pwmconfig' which according to what I read is a config tool in lm-sensors

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
