LM11-software manager will not run SOLVED

Using Mint 11, Katya: The Software Manager has ceased to work, will not even open. The welcome, or start screen appears and nothing happens. The only way to close this screen is to restart the computer. --Rgds.

Two things I would try:

1. Try updating from the command prompt, and see if this resolves it:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

2. Open Synaptic Package Manager, search for mintinstall, and select to reinstall that package.

No harm in doing both.

Okay, last option; open a terminal and run:

mintinstall

Please post any error messages from the terminal output here.

Tried the Mint install thing. --Here is copy & paste of the last couple of lines:
review = Review(elements[0], float(elements[1]), elements[2], elements[3], elements[4])
ValueError: could not convert string to float: ~~1283721979

Did a bit of digging on this one because I had this issue.

What I found on my install by tracking back through the Python code for mintinstall was a corrupt reviews.list file in /home/user/.linuxmint/mintinstall

I'm afraid just re-installing mintinstall in Synaptic Package Manager doesn't remove and recreate this file.

If you manually go in and delete reviews.list and start mintinstall the file gets re-created and things work fine again - well it did for me anyway

Finally worked. Thank you Running Man. This would have taken a bit to find. ~ Important thing is, that once the reviews file is deleted, DO NOT do a fresh Mint Install via Synaptic. ~ Just open Software Manager. ~ Rgds.
