New install of Linux Mint 12, installed one ppa (Jupiter from webupd8.org), but disabled it to debug. I'm new to Linux Mint (converted from Ubuntu), and is mostly happy, but this seems like bugs...
This is what happens:
MintUpdate (the update tool) shows new updates that are available. I click Install updates, but instead of installing updates, the application just closes. The shield icon shows no updates for a few seconds (blank shield) and then is back with updates (blue "i").
So I tried synaptic, but Synaptic just flashes, and then quits. Similar to this Ubuntu bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/synaptic/+bug/607605, but I don't have any accesibility features enabled so the workaround doesn't work (might be a similar but different bug).
Apt-get works fine though, as does Software manager.
Update tool doesn't do anything, synaptic doesn't work

Thanks for the reply. Though this is not very informative:
No output from synaptic, it flashes briefly that's all. Should I install the sensors tools? What are they?$ sudo synaptic
[sudo] password for audun:
$ inxi -sr
Sensors: Error: You do not have the sensors app installed.

That should have been capital S, linux is case sensitive.audunmb wrote:inxi -sr
Ok you might try the solutions mentioned in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1854470 and also try starting synaptic as root with gksu synaptic.

Re: Update tool doesn't do anything, synaptic doesn't work
OK, tried again:
Already tried the option in that thread, but I didn't have screen-reader or orca turned on in the first place.audun@samson ~ $ gksu synaptic
audun@samson ~ $ inxi -Sr

Re: Update tool doesn't do anything, synaptic doesn't work
Download mintupdate from http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php?release=Lisa
and try manually install mintupdate with Gdebi

There were two options in that thread and the point was it didn't matter whether you used screen reader or not.audunmb wrote:Already tried the option in that thread, but I didn't have screen-reader or orca turned on
