Still, sadly, technical software are still way behind in open source. Both AutoCAD and MATLAB breaks all competition, for 3D CAD Pro Engineer is the king. Hopefully we will see some improvements in the open source in the near future...

Looked at Turbocash site- equivalent on MS Money, the list says.
But most of thelinks are returning error 404.
Also the system requirements list Windows only. Wil it work on Mint?
Any nother OSS alternatives like Ace Money etc. I need for just personal accounting.

nice list it will be helpful for my known people who i suggest to migrate from linux and how they can still enjoy what theyre doing with their windows softwares without worries

OpenLaszlo really caught my eye... Looks like you can do some neat stuff with that... no Linux specific download link tho... makes you wonder how well it will work...

Check the names if you get a 404 message, links often die off, because a page just doen't update any changes..

There is also a fair amount of cad software for Linux, but if you need autocad specifically, then outa luck

I have a feeling I'll be corrected but I always thought blender was analogous to 3ds Max. I'm pretty sure that GIMP is similar, in some respects, to Photoshop.

Seconded, although I can only vouch for gimp, I use both gimp and photoshop and I can enter photshop, stick bob geldofs head on terminators body, place him in a fiery building, add all the neccessary reflections / singed parts, making it look completely realistic, and then enter Gimp and do the exact same thing... I do not understand why people say that gimp isn't capable of doing anything except very basic photo editing.... What is it exactly these people are trying to accomplish? or are they just to lazy to work around and learn gimp?

The latter for sure.

I didn't look too closely at all that, but I think it would be handy do provide such a list where the OS alternative is available in Windows as well as Linux, for users to get used to the open alternatives before switching.

Video editing on Linux is still far behind Windows Movie Maker and Apple iMovie. Everything listed below is a pain in the ass. Kdenlive is the best of the bad, but it has a long way to go. Installing and using these programs is a nightmare.
