Kvirc Display issues solved

I'm running Daryna KDE, and when i run KVirc 3.2.4 i get some display issues in the active window, the text input box flashes and half of the text box turns.
im assuming its a Linux mint issue as i used this same version of kvirc in Kubuntu gutsy and didn't have this problem.
i thinking it might also be a video driver issue, as i could not use the ATI proprietary drivers in daryna either as i would get weird characters displaying on the screen, so im not using the restricted drivers.

anyway would anyone have any idea what might be causing this and what i might do to fix it?
or recommend an irc client that is as goos and has the same features of kvirc?

Ati radeon x600

i am using pidgin for my messengers but i like Kvirc and its features. somehow i was able to get the proprietary drivers working, not sure if its a newer version or not, and i was able to get my hands on the newest ver of kvirc which seems to have HELPED not solved the problem though
