PC freezes installing at 81% of the process

Hi, I tried several times with different versions of Linux and all of them but one that then froze the mouse after starting up, freezes around completing 81% of the installation process. My computer matches the hardware requirements. It is frustrating. I'm using a 250 Mb PATA reformatted from a previous running W7Pro without problems. I thought to give it a try to Mint since it sounded better then Ubuntu and since in Ubuntu without having problems reaching the Internet I have never been able to access my home network running other machines with W XP, OS X, and W7Pro.
