Google Earth & Lisa

Postby jadek on Tue Apr 10, 2012 2:09 pm

I've recently made the jump from Julia (10) to Lisa (12). With Lisa (64-bit) I've used Cinnamon alone. A bump in the road has been Google Earth (and 1 or 2 others), which operated fine under Julia. I've tried installing the .deb direct from GE's site, as well as the stable version in the repository using Software Manager. Both installs seem to proceed without a hitch, but both do not start up. I click on the link in Menu but nothing seems to happen; the hard drive light gives maybe one, quick flicker.

Any suggestions? Others have that problem? (BTW, I tried all the other desktop environments & GE didn't run under any of them. I've not had the blank window problem that some other posts have indicated; it never even gets that far! Oh, and the same result happens when trying the 32-bit version: seemingly clean install, but the program doesn't open.)

P.S. Now using Linux Mint on my laptop for 14 months now; XP's really only used in VirtualBox to run Bible software & a DTP I really like. I am SO glad I switched!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I have no problem running Google-Earth 6.1 in LinuxMint 12 (32 bit). Assuming that your installation is in /opt, check your path statement.
Mine reads: /opt/google/earth/free/google-earth %f

Yeah, the path looks the same. Using alt-f2 and typing google-earth yields the same non-start.

I had the same problem.
Using synaptic to reinstall "lsb-base" and "lsb-core" solved the issue for me.
Good luck. :)

Paul, did you change those two files via synaptic before or after your install?

Hi jadek,
I really don't think it matters, but I had already installed google-earth from synaptic.
I read on the google-earth webstie that "lsb-core" and "lsb-base" were required. They were both already installed, but it would not launch, so I simply marked them for reinstallation, hit "apply", rebooted and it worked.
If you don't have any luck, take a look here: http://productforums.google.com/forum/# ... arth/linux
Hope you can get this sorted.
