problem with pulseaudio and SDL-based programs atari800

Postby penpal0andrew on Mon Apr 16, 2012 4:11 pm

I installed from the respositories - Version: 2.2.1-1 of atari800.

When I run the emulator, I get this:

Unrecognized variable or bad parameters: 'VIDEOMODE_HOST_ASPECT_RATIO=0:0'
Failed to stat runtime directory /home/andrew/.pulse/18c7691f933dcc7695af128100000005-runtime: Invalid argument
Problem with audio:
Sound is disabled.
joystick 0 not found
joystick 1 not found

How do I get sound to be emulated?

I am using Linux Mint 12 Gnome 32 bit on a Asus Eee PC 901.

Thanks.

Update - I found atari++ and when I run it, I get a message about a missing /dev/dsp
maybe this is the problem in atari800 as well.
How do I make a /dev/dsp ?

is this what I should do?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

No one wants to help with this. By chance, I was looking into recording directly from the sound card with Audacity, and they say to use the program, Pulse Audio volume control. This program is not part of standard Mint, but when I installed and ran it, I got a message that it could not connect to pulseaudio. After alot of trial and error and research, I found out that my user account needed to be added to the groups pulse and pulse-access.

I consider it a BUG in Linux Mint 12 - that when a user is created, it is not added to the required pulse groups.

Also, I could not find any application to add a user to a group, so I had to edit the file manually.

Also, for people who want to record from a sound card with Audacity (very useful since the default was the microphone which is built into my computer), is in the recording tab of volume control, once it detects recording [press Audacity pause first and then record buttons], make sure that the "Monitor ..." is selected. I did this once and it seems to not need to be done again so far. Anyway, there may be so many ways of doing this, as well as different versions of Linux, both as distros, releases, what people have installed on their own, and different hardware configurations.
