Thank you for your reply Husse.
If the speakers really are powered by USB why even bother - you get at most 2.5 W (5 V @ 500 mA)
(You don't get decent sound until you have at least soem10 "real" watts)
- Yes they are powered by USB. And the volume is about 10 times as loud as the internal speakers. They were bought for portability.
Hardly better sound than internal speakers
Do not take my word for it but (
http://reviews.cnet.com/pc-speakers/log ... mncol;rnav) these are part of a very mobile setup for my wife to carry to her classes which are never at the same place (she never knows beforehand the size of the room).
Check the settings in the programs you use
I would prefer to use Gnome Mplayer for all of its features set. But, as I am stuck right now, I am willing to try anything out.
The preview (or better "prehear") is handled separately from the players
Thanks for the insight. Since the "prehear" works, will it not be better to look for a solution to my settings from that perspective ? And then where to look ?
Also set sound sink to USB
We'll do.
You did not mention that it was USB speakers at first. One of the mysteries I don't really get to grips with is why USB sound works flawlessly for the most part but creates problems in some cases
I'll add this to my list and come back to you
