Would installing Mint 5 LTS be a potential fix? I'm downloading the ISO now...

Well, I installed Mint LTS 5 XFCE edition. That's 48 hours of my life I'll never get back.

After wrestling with sound issues, problems with the propietary ATI driver, and several other things, I finally got the system to a point where I could test flash.

It's AWFUL. Windows XP with IE8 on the same machine is slow, but at least twice as fast as on Linux.

I finally found a solution that works for me. Unfortunately, it doesn't involve Linux Mint.

After trying OSSv4, ATI propietary drivers, and all of the other stuff I've mentioned in this thread, I stumbled across a blog of a guy trying to get his family to use Linux (like me) and they were rejecting it because of a flash game on Facebook called Yoville. Yoville is made by the same company that makes the game my daughter is complaining about.

The blogger found increased performance using WINE, but eventually found the best performance using Seamonkey. I tried both solutions with Mint 7 XFCE and neither of them worked. In fact, just a simple Youtube video was chappy and laggy, with frames missing.

So I installed Xubuntu 9.04 and then Seamonkey. I instantly saw an improvement in performance, as did my daughter. But she wanted me to keep looking. It was faster than on XP, but it still wasn't fast enough. So last night I installed Chromium and Midori. I eliminated Chromium instantly. It performed exactly like Firefox and such on Mint, even on Youtube.

And then I tried Midori. For anybody not sure what Midori is, it's the "stock" XFCE browser, similar to Konqueror for KDE or Epiphany for Gnome. I'd read alot of people saying that Konqueror and/or Epiphany were their fastest browsers, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

My daughter loves it. She gave me the thumbs up. Even Pet Society, which is the slowest game on Facebook, renders smoothly and quickly with no stuttering, even on high detail.

Unfortunately, the performance is only that good on Xubuntu. On Linux Mint, it's still laggy. :(

Hi All,
I just install Mint KDE and did an update all with Synaptic.

I too suffer from choppy video when trying to view full screen on-line videos such as:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGvRnExK_qM

I have the same problem with Mepis, Dreamlinux and Vector Linux for which I have not yet found a solution.

I have not had the same problem with PCLinuxOS or Sabayon.

Yes I am multibooting eight different distros.

By the way I have an Nvidia card.

Is there any way to get it to work properly?

Is the issue only with fullscreen? If so, there are some known issues that may be causing the problem for you.

Please let me know if:

1) The problem is only fullscreen or if it affects regular flash as well.

2) Are you running 32 or 64-bit computer and OS?

3) Are you using 32 or 64-bit version of Flash?

I've been messing with Xubuntu 9.10 for the past couple of days. The ONLY things I've installed so far are the flash plugin and WICD. Otherwise, it's 100% stock straight from the Live CD.

And Firefox + Flash is working WELL.

So there's definitely hope for the next version of Mint.

My daughter has been playing on Facebook all afternoon. The issue appears to be fixed in Karmic, no more workarounds required.
