no HDMI passthrough

Postby sebgros on Sun Aug 31, 2014 3:28 pm

Hi,
I ve got a new HTPC with mint 17

the set up is :

Asus H81M-A
Intel Pentium G3220
4Go ram
intel ssd

HTPC <HDMI> samsung TV <optical link> yamaha surround amp
but lets forget about the amp right now.

Problem is I can't get any digital sound out of the computer to the TV (passthrough)

I like use XBMC
Under system/settings/system/audio output, HDMI is selected but nothing comes out of the TV speakers

sound is fine when it's analogic on XBMC or on a web page.
The HDMI audio output is selected on Mint taskbar

Any help appreciated.

Ps1 : I m new to linux (6 months)
Ps2 : I just changed the motherboard for an HDMI one, the one before had a DVI and a soundblaster spdif link to the amp and it was fine but often I had to reselect the right sound card/output . Thought the hdmi would solve everything but it s worse.
Ps3 : I know the TV can handle DTS/Dolby Digital

Code: Select all

Code: Select all
aplay -l

originaire de 57150 (moitie moitie quoi) mais 25 ans a l'etranger....

So get your bios up to speed first (won't harm anyway)
In the meantime I'll have a look on your specs and drivers used at the moment. Will be busy today but I'm sure someone else will jump in.
Au revoir.

I updated to the last version of the bios but it didn't change anything concerning my problem.

I also tried to disable the onboard sound device.
XBMC now shows no passthrough device.

might be only XBMC related

thank you for your help so far

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

let's use this as base for troubleshooting. See how far you can get and then we can see if we need to edit some files.
Once you changed the motherboard, did you reinstall Mint?
