deleting tracks on ipod nano

I've had real problems for years with ipods on linux getting tracks and or album art onto them. Currently I can get everything onto a touch and get tracks onto a nano but not album art. My problem at the moment is deleting tracks. I cannot seem to do it in amarock, rhythmbox, banshee, gtkpod (this shows signs of working but its not seeing an album we need to delete). rhythmbox crashes out if I delete an album but doesn't actually delete it.

Any ideas.
