Mint 13 - video playback colours wrong (not just Flash)

Postby mingle on Thu May 24, 2012 10:06 pm

Hi all,

Just installed Linux Mint 13 (Mate) on my older Compaq Evo D510 (P4 1.8GHz, 1.5GB RAM, Intel 84825G integrated GFX)
and have a problem when playing back video - the colours seem to be extreme bright/garish, and possibly something like
red, green and blue all mapped incorrectly.

This happens with all videos, whether they're .AVI, .MP4, .FLV. MPG.

I noticed a few other users have had what appears to be the same issue with Flash and .FLV videos.

I have found a partial workaround when playing videos with the VLC video player - I disable hardware acceleration and the
colours look fine. However, when using other video-playing software, I can't disable h/w acceleration...

That suggests some sort of GFX driver-bug, I think? Does anyone know if there are any updated GFX drivers for the Intel 84825G chipset
or if there are any other fixes for this issue?

Cheers,

Mike.
