Linuxmint 13 mate How do I get sharper video resolution?

Hi Folks,

This is my first post and I have just installed linuxmint 13 mate onto my laptop after my Vista OP system got stuck in a reboot loop. I am very impressed so far and am amazed at how easy and functional linuxmint is. The only quibble I have is that when I watch BBCiplayer or videos in general I notice that the resolution isn't that sharp. Is there a way that I can resolve this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Chris.
