 ok i have heard good things about mint so i downloaded mint13 XFCE fully ran all the updates then i discovered i have no internal microphone while in firefox web browser ..or whenever i am in a online chat room.this function works on my windows7 machine.so i checked on the forums and everyone trys the same old thing alsamixer servre,audiopulse,etc...blah blah blah i then wiped my hard drive and downloaded maya13 gnome edtion as i said i am willing to give it a fair shot again nothing no mic! so before everyone asks this question i want people to know its not mints fault.I tried fedora, ubuntu, sabayon(gentoo),slack all with the same result.non the less it seems that it is a problem with the HDA intell deal...this is my laptop with built in internal mic and cam its a toshiba C655-s5307 intel core i3-2330m 2.2 GHz processor speed 8GB DDR3 of ram intel graphics chip etc etc..anyways im sure a few other have this same set up and probably had this issue as well...I have chosen to wipe the hard drive and to return to the world of windows.I dont like windows but at least my mic and cam work there.Good luck mint team 8)

Completely agree with TC.
I have same issue with my mic in asus eeepc 1025ce. Webcam works, but mic - nope.
Still searching for a fix.
Staying dualboot.

Microphone started work when I removed pulseaudio (say hello to all ubuntu-similar distros starting from 8.04!).
It works, but quality of sound is awful. I tried to use headphones+microphone (phone accessoires) with my asus eeepc1025ce and got same quality, so this is driver issue, I think.
Have anyone any idea how to improve sound quality?
